Great Room Renovation

Tall Great Room

Design Request:

The two-story great room did not feel warm and cozy like a great room should due to the height of the ceiling. It lacked character, definition, and pizazz. It was difficult to hang artwork, pictures, etc. because the piece felt lost on a large expanse of drywall.

Design Solution:

  • Add character and break up the verticality of the space by adding mouldings similar to some turn of the century spaces with tall ceilings. This creates visual interest lower on the wall and keeps your eyes down in the living space.

  • Replace white ceiling fan with a large chandelier to create a "false ceiling" and to bring the height of the room down.

  • Paint the entire room a creamy white in order to make the entire space feel cohesive as well as light and airy.

  • Add color to create visual interest down in the living space.
